3  Mars

Mars

People living on Earth may one day need to live on another planet.

*****

We will travel a lot around this website before looking more deeply at why.

Within the topic of climate change,

the oceans are rising,

protection from the Sun's rays is being lost,

and the number of humans on Earth is also rising.

The Home page for the new Journey into Space for Children 8 to 12 website is here

Before you start

There are new names and terms to understand as you time-travel through the website.***

Term  A word or phrase used to describe a thing or to express an idea, especially in a particular kind of  language or branch of study.

Time-travel  Many science fiction stories such as Dr Who use time-travel to stir the imagination.

"Journey into space" was an very early example here.

When you arrive at the Starship Enterprise, imagination is introduced. "Space" is not as well understood as scientists would like.  Without imagination, scientists as good as

Stephen Hawking may not have achieved as much as they'd like.   Image result for stephen hawking images

Scientists carry out "thought experiments" which can include travel to the other side of the universe over many years.  Imagination is an important part of the process.

Terms such as massmatter and atoms can be found in astronomy etc books, on most science and astronomy websites, and they are seldom explained.

Many terms can be found on the Vocabulary page at the end of the website  Mainly, they are explained in some detail on the relevant page.

Science includes VERY LARGE NUMBERS - VLNs.

Atoms are very important to understanding VLNs.  Look at a human hair in a brush or comb.  A human hair is about 1 million carbon atoms wide source

You will learn more about 3x1012 later.  Also why some writers include the source of material they write about.

You could read the Introduction here or join Captain Kirk on the Starship Enterprise here
